Will the sound quality of the final product be up to par with the demos on your website?
Smart question! Many voice talents record their demos at an outside studio, but record projects at their home studio. In this case, the sound quality you hear on their website may differ from the quality you will hear in your recorded project.
My audio demos are an accurate reflection of my studio’s sound quality, as they were recorded in my studio. In contrast, some of the video demos were recorded at outside studios.
Voice overs aren’t cheap – I’ve got a lot of money riding on this! What if you screw up? How do I get you to fix it?
No worries. I provide a recut free of charge if I have made a mistake of any sort in the voice over.
Will the voice over sound the way I want it to? How can I direct you if I’m not there in the studio?
It is important to provide direction, before I start recording. You need to specify the tone of voice you want, what pace to use, etc. You can read a complete list of information I’d like to receive before recording.
Further, when you write the script, it is recommended to include instructions. Put words that should be emphasized in bold or italics, and if you need longer pauses write that in the script, too. You can read more about preparing your script and view some sample voice over scripts.
If you made a mistake in the script, or if you later decide to change the direction, I will provide a recut at my standard rates, but I will waive the minimum fee for the recut audio.
But I really want to know how my project will sound in advance! Is there a way to do this?
You can always request a free custom demo before hiring me. This will give you a good idea how you project will sound, and it will give you a chance to request changes in tone, cadence, etc.
What is a recut, and could you please summarize your recut policy?
A recut is a rerecording of part or all of a voice over. I provide a recut free of charge, if I have made a mistake of any sort in the voice over. I provide a recut at my standard rates, but I will waive the minimum fee for the recut audio.
Can you help me write my script?
This site provides guidance on how to write a voiceover script. For your convenience, you can download an MS Word file with a standard script template here.
Once your script is ready, you can use Victoria’s voice over script editing service, to perfect it.
I’m having a video made. Should the voiceover be recorded before the video, or should the video be created before the voiceover?
Either way works fine for me. Please ask your video person what they prefer.
For an in-depth discussion of both approaches, see What Should Be Prepared First: The Video or the Voice Over?.
How soon will my voice over be ready?
Turnaround time is usually 1 business day for projects up to 2,500 words. Longer projects may or may not take longer.
But voice over is just talking. Why can’t you have my voice over ready in a few minutes?
This is a common misconception. Voice over is actually a lot of work, and it requires skill and time. You can learn more about why it important to hire a professional voice talent and the skills required for voice over.
How much does your voice over service cost?
It ain’t free, baby, but it really ain’t too bad compared to other voice talents. The minimum fee in many places in the world is $100 per hour in the studio, and my prices are meant to be relatively affordable.
Contact me with your project details for a reasonable price quote.
But voice over is just talking. I’ll give you 25 bucks for 1,000 words. I think that’s fair enough, don’t you?
As mentioned, voice over is most definitely not “just talking”. It is a craft that takes much training, skill, and effort, as well as investment of time and money. A voice over of a single word can cost more than $25, depending on the project genre, so no, $25 for 1,000 words is not going to work.
Here’s a fantastic podcast on the costs behind voice over.
Look, I just found 20 voice talents who’ll do the project for $25. What do you say to that?
You are assuming that they really are professional voice talents, with respectable qualifications and experience. There are many people on the Web who claim to be voice talents. Check out my article on choosing a voice talent. If after reading it, you decide that these $25 voice talents are up to the job, then I wish you the best of luck! (Honest, I do!)
Would you consider working pro-bono for a good cause?
Yes. If you are a charity organization, and I believe in your cause, I would consider recording your project pro-bono. Please contact me.
